Rules

There is only one rule covering the use of the computer resources in the Harvey Laboratory.
Use the computer resources properly and legally and without depriving other users of their proper share of them.
How you comply with this rule is up to you but the following are some suggestions:

Usage

An account should be used by only the registrant; the deviation from the regular usage pattern looks suspiciously like a security breach. There is no reason to share accounts. Each person should obtain their own account.

Remote

Remote users should not leave their account open; log out as soon as you are done. Unattended logins are potentially dangerous but most of all it makes it harder to manage the systems. Whereas we can talk to local users it is an impossible task to coordinate with remote users.

Snacks

Drinks and food in the computer rooms; this is entirely up to you. There is a risk of spills and greasy snacks gum up the keyboard. You are responsible for replacement of damaged equipment.

Screen

It is a good idea to lock the screen if you are going to be away from the computer for a short time. However, this feature has also been misused by some people to stop other users from using a machine. Therefore, the screen lock has been disabled. Users must not try to get around this, by installing and using their own screen lock. Violators will have their accounts locked out of each workstation in which the screen lock was used.

More

More suggestions will be posted so please check back every now and then.
