These are
the major services available in the Harvey Lab. Applications
or programs can be located in the Software pages, listed
alphabetically
or by categories.
Most of
the machines are identified by short names: add
.biology.gatech.edu for the full names. Machines that
do not have fixed network names are identified by their
model or make (italics) or a nickname.
If a service
is identified with a domain, then it is necessary to have an
account for the domain in order to access the service.
Otherwise, the domain is marked as None. Names in
gray text indicate restrictions of some kind:
Machines - assigned to a specific user; Domain
- only members of certain groups have access and
Location - the room is a private office. (Group 600
and 700 account holders have preferential access to CE312;
CE314 is open to all account holders.)

Remote
access is from any computer that is not a member of a
domain, e.g., from a computer at home or a laptop in the
office. The protocol that is used for the access is shown in
the following table. Where access is not possible or not
allowed, the protocol is shown as None. File sharing
is more convenient than file transfer. There are very few
instances when it is necessary to perform a file transfer
between domains because the file systems of each domain are
cross mounted in the other domains. Remote execution from a
computer in one domain on a computer in the same domain (if
it is possible) make sense only in a few instances. Remote
execution from a domain on a different domain (if it is
possible or permitted) is acceptable and quite
normal.
